I felt right at home here during my 30-day workation.

The apartment is almost brand new, with a few loose bolts here and there. The entire building, a former university of fine arts, has been beautifully renovated.

The location couldn’t be better. It’s just a few blocks from the main squares and the promenade. The street has very little car traffic but still feels lively.

Parking is very limited. Closest parking is 5 minutes away, but for cheaper 24h options have to walk 15min

The washer and dryer are in the kitchen, and you can borrow an iron from the shared space.
WiFi was super fast (500 Mbit fiber).
When I booked it, the price was much lower than the market, so I expected some compromises:
The unit is on the back side. It’s on the first floor, with limited sunlight and a view of… the neighbors’ windows.
There is ongoing construction in the adjacent building. Expect some noise for a few hours around midday.
There’s a restaurant with a patio right under the window, which was quite busy on some days. The Christmas songs and tasty smells were a bit distracting, but tolerable.
That said, for the price, I would choose it again. Just don’t forget your noise-canceling earbuds if you plan to work there.

The space was beautifully designed, modern, small yet spacious enough to stretch out, and in a central spot in Funchal. You are steps away from restaurants, farmacy, shops, and Santa Catarina park. I appreciate the support of the building manager — they are super responsive to any requests and were flexible with my new checkout date. My only suggestion is for the building team to do a deeper clean of the bedsheets/duvet and the floor. Other than that, great price for a tastefully designed flat.
