Dedicated workspace
There was a desk with an actual office chair provided as dedicated workspace. Many nomads have backpain sitting in uncomfortable chairs so having an actual office chair that is designed for sitting on it for prolonged hours was a nice touch. There was a rather run down desk when I moved in but when I raised the issue to the owner, he changed the desk for me so now the desk is new and stable.
The workspace is under the loft bed so I preferred working at the round table where there was more natural light.
Exercise and meditation spaces
The flat was small there was not much space to do a workout but there was definitely enough space to meditate. The location of the flat is perfect, it is right in the city centre so you can find plenty of gyms nearby. 4% is a few minutes walk away, I went to Sugar Fitness which was 15 minutes away by metro.
Accessibility
The building is quite old and there was no lift so people with mobility issues should not rent the apartment. Not to mention the loft style bedroom, they would need to go up the stairs.
In terms of location, the flat is right in the centre. You can get anywhere within 15 minute on foot but you have plenty of public transport options too. The main tram line (4/6) runs right next to the flat and the one of the 4 metro lines (metro line 2) also has a stop 50 metres away from the flat. Several of the main buses stop near the house too (No. 7). It could not be better located in terms of transport.
Neighbourhood
Blaha Lujza square is in the centre of Budapest but the area used to have a bad reputation. However, this side of the square has been renovated and I myself was surprised how safe I felt both during the day and coming home late at night. There is constant police vigilance on the Blaha Lujza square which makes you feel safer too.
I would recommend it for solo female travellers as well.
There are several gyms, restaurants, shops, clubs, bars nearby and you can get to the top attractions either on foot or by using public transport – of which you have an abundance of choice as Blaha is one of the main transport hubs of the city.
There are some nice cafes in the neighbourhood that I loved:
- Arch & Beans – a good café to work from
- 4% - gym with long opening hours
- Fite club – martial arts gym with English speaking instructors
- Lam Anh Pho - authentic and delicious Pho soup
The host
The host was incredibly nice and kind. Originally, I wasn’t very happy with the apartment but he took my feedback seriously and made changes while I was there to make everything more comfortable for me. He was genuinely interested in how he can make the flat more attractive for digital nomads and cared about my wellbeing. He was very responsive when I texted him and he always asked if I needed anything. I really appreciated his efforts.
Summary: The location is perfect for getting around the city. The flat is ideal for people who like studio apartments and the “smart” element of it makes it a fun and unique living experience. The light, the entertainment system is all voice controlled. The host was amazing, every time I raised an issue he was quick in responding and fixed the problem on the day. He really made me feel like I am being looked after.
